Neil Broadley, a longtime localization contributor to Square Enix’s SaGa franchise, has passed away at the age of 45 following a multi-year battle with stage 4 colon cancer. His passing was announced in a farewell message Broadley prepared and a colleague published.
Broadley explained that he had continued working on the SaGa series throughout his treatment, despite facing complications from repeated surgeries, three types of chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. His work brought him comfort and purpose during his illness, especially his interactions with fans of the franchise.
He had spent the past several years preparing his successors to continue his work. Although he would not be present for the release of his next project, he said he was confident fans would enjoy it. He is survived by his partner of 25 years and his dachshund, Noah.
Broadley closed his message with a request for fans to treat others, and themselves, with kindness. He also hoped players would continue enjoying the SaGa series for years to come.
