The Zora Domain in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a huge, frozen area that's home to lots of anthropomorphic fish people, including King Zora and Princess Ruto. It's a gorgeous area and one of my personal favourite places in the series, and of course, there's some things that Link needs to do here before continuing with his journey. To keep you on track, here's my Zelda Ocarina of Time Zora Domain guide.

Zelda Ocarina of Time Zora Domain
Link's time in the Zora Domain sees him fishing, diving, and meeting with King Zora himself. There's also some upgrades to grab here that you don't want to miss! Below, you'll find an overview of what objectives you'll be completing here, as well as the locations of any key collectibles in the area.
- Child timeline
- Gold Skulltula locations
- Heart Piece locations
Child timeline
As Child Link, you'll need to complete the following objectives in the Zora Domain:
- Get the Silver Scale from the diving minigame.
- Go through the portal at the bottom of Zora Domain.
- Show the bottle to King Zora. (This can only be done after collecting the bottle from the bottom of Lake Hylia.)
- Catch a fish in an empty bottle.
The Silver Scale is an upgrade that'll improve your Dive Time. To get it, go down the stairs directly in front of you upon entering the Domain and speak with the Zora that's standing at the bottom. While talking to him, he'll point out the waterfall above him, where you'll see another Zora.
Go up to the edge of the waterfall and speak to the Zora there, then complete their diving minigame, which tasks you with finding five scales underwater in 40 seconds.
As for the portal at the bottom of Zora Domain, you can reach this directly after the diving minigame! Simply dive into the water where you took part in the minigame and look for the white and blue entrance shown below, then swim into it. This will drop you off in the middle of Lake Hylia.
The bottle you need to grab from Lake Hylia fortunately isn't too far from where you first emerge. Look for the Zora who remarks 'Treasure… somewhere?' and dive down to the right of them, where you should see the bottle on the floor below.
Return to King Zora to show him the bottle (and most importantly, the message from Princess Ruto inside it) to continue. While you're on your way back to him, be sure to catch a fish in an Empty Bottle too, as you'll need to give this to Lord Jabu-Jabu later.
After dealing with the above, there isn't anything you need to do in the Zora Domain later as Adult Link.
Gold Skulltula location
There is just one Gold Skulltula to collect in the Zora Domain. To get it, go to the top of the waterfall at night and look left (while playing as Adult Link). You'll need Hookshot or Longshot to reach it.
Heart Piece location
There is just one Heart Piece to collect in the Zora Domain. Here's how to get it!
Playing as Child Link, light a Deku Stick using one of the torches in the royal chamber. Fire in-hand, light the stone torch on the stairs. This will always stay lit and is easier to return to if something goes wrong with the following torches. I also recommend using a new Deku Stick at this point to reset your fire time.
With your new Deku Stick, light the following torches:
- At the bottom of the staircase leading to King Zora.
- Left of the shop entrance.
- Left of the previous torch.
- On the edge of the water further along from the previous torch.
- Run forward to the torch on the walkway in the shallow water.
- Follow the walkway behind the waterfall and light the two torches there.
If you've done the above correctly, then a chest containing a Heart Piece should appear between the waterfall torches.
Playing the original game? Here are the torch locations in the original version of Ocarina:
- The one outside the shop.
- Run forward into the shallow water and light the torch there.
- Stay in the shallow water and run behind the waterfall where you'll find two torches. Try to hug the cliff wall as much as possible to prevent putting out your Deku Stick.
That's all for the Zora Domain! For more on Ocarina of Time, take a look at where to find all Empty Bottles, all upgrade locations, and how to learn the Sun Song, which allows you to freely change the time of day.
